Dieffenbachia
Dieffenbachia (Dieffenbachia spp.), commonly known as Dumb Cane, is a tropical houseplant admired for its striking, variegated foliage and easy-going nature.
Light
Preferred Light: Bright, indirect light.
Placement: Near an east or north-facing window. It can tolerate low light but may lose some of its vibrant variegation. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering
Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil feel dry.
Water thoroughly until it drains out of the bottom of the pot, then discard any excess water.
Frequency: Typically every 7–10 days, depending on light, temperature, and humidity.
Fertilization
Frequency: Every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 10-10-10 or 20-20-20.
Avoid: Fertilizing in fall and winter when the plant's growth slows.
Additional Tips
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Increase humidity by misting, using a humidifier, or placing the plant on a pebble tray.
Pruning: Remove yellowing or damaged leaves regularly to maintain the plant's appearance.
Toxicity: Dieffenbachia is toxic to pets and humans if ingested, causing irritation or swelling. Handle with care.
