Ficus Elastica Burgundy

Ficus Elastica ‘Burgundy’ is an eye-catching rubber plant variety known for its deep, glossy, burgundy-tinted leaves. It is a low-maintenance, evergreen houseplant that can bring a dramatic touch to any indoor space.

Light

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal for Ficus Elastica ‘Burgundy.’ It can tolerate some direct morning sunlight but avoid harsh afternoon sun, which may scorch the leaves.

  • It can adapt to lower light conditions, but growth will slow, and the burgundy color may fade.

  • Rotate the plant periodically to encourage even growth and prevent it from leaning toward the light source.

Temperature

  • Optimal Temperature: 65°F to 85°F. It thrives in warm, stable environments.

  • Cold Sensitivity: Avoid exposure to temperatures below 55°F, as cold drafts or prolonged chill can damage the plant.

  • Keep away from direct airflow from heaters, air conditioners, or drafty window.

Watering

  • Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil feel dry to the touch.

  • Avoid overwatering, as Ficus Elastica ‘Burgundy’ is sensitive to waterlogged soil.

  • Use a pot with proper drainage holes and discard any excess water from the saucer.

  • During the winter months, reduce watering frequency as the plant's growth slows.

Fertilization

  • Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).

  • Avoid fertilizing during fall and winter when the plant is not actively growing.

  • If growth appears stunted or leaves lose their vibrant color, supplement with diluted fertilizer to address potential nutrient deficiencies.
