Frosty Fern
Frosty Ferns, despite their name, are not true ferns but belong to the Selaginella genus. They are loved for their delicate, feathery foliage with a frosted, white-tipped appearance. These plants thrive in humid conditions and make excellent houseplants or terrarium additions.
Light
Bright, indirect light.
Prefers indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions.
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate foliage.
Humidity
Ideal Humidity: High humidity (60% or higher).
Frosty Ferns thrive in consistently moist and humid environments.
Watering
Avoid letting the soil dry out!
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.
Check the top ½ inch of soil—if it starts to feel dry, water gently.
Temperature
Ideal Temperature: 60–75°F .
Cannot tolerate frost—keep above 50°F
Varieties of Frosty Fern
There are several Selaginella species with similar care needs:
Selaginella kraussiana 'Variegata' – The most common, featuring frosty-white tips.
Selaginella uncinata (Peacock Moss) – Has an iridescent blue-green shimmer.
Selaginella lepidophylla (Resurrection Plant) – Can dry out completely and revive with moisture.
