English Ivy’
English Ivy (Hedera helix) is a versatile and hardy climbing vine that is popular both as an indoor and outdoor plant. It’s well-loved for its ability to trail or climb and its lush, green foliage.
Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal for English Ivy. It can tolerate lower light conditions but may become leggy and lose its vibrant color.
Temperature
Optimal Temperature: 50°F to 70°F
English Ivy prefers cooler temperatures and may not thrive in consistently warm or hot conditions.
Watering
Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry to the touch.
Ivy doesn’t like to stay too dry, but also doesn’t like to be waterlogged. Ensure the pot has proper drainage.
Fertilization
During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your Ivy once every 4-6 weeks with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer.
In fall and winter, when the plant’s growth slows down, cut back on fertilizing.
Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to leggy growth.
Growing Tips
Support: If you want the ivy to climb, provide a trellis or some sort of vertical support. English Ivy naturally climbs by using aerial roots to attach to surfaces.
Trailing Effect: If you prefer it to trail, place the pot in a hanging basket or let the vines hang over the edges of a shelf or container.
