Lipstick Plant

Lipstick plants (Aeschynanthus radicans) are trailing tropical houseplants named for their tubular red flowers that resemble lipstick tubes. With proper care, they can bloom year-round, adding a splash of color to your indoor space.

Light

  • Bright, indirect light.

  • Prefers filtered sunlight from an east- or west-facing window.

  • Too little light may reduce flowering, while too much direct sun can scorch leaves.

Watering

  • Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry before watering.

  • Water thoroughly, allowing excess to drain, but don’t let the plant sit in water.

  • Reduce watering in fall and winter when growth slows.

Temperature

  • Ideal temperature: 65–75°F.

  • Cannot tolerate temperatures below 55°F.

  • Keep away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Fertilizing

  • Feed regularly during the growing season (spring–summer).

  • Use a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer (10-10-10 or 20-20-20) every 2–4 weeks.

  • Reduce feeding in fall and winter.

Ming Aralia

Ming Aralia (Polyscias fruticosa) is an elegant, slow-growing houseplant with finely divided, feathery foliage. This tropical plant thrives in warm, humid conditions and makes a stunning addition to indoor spaces.

  • Bright, indirect light.

  • Can tolerate lower light but grows best with consistent brightness.

  • Avoid direct afternoon sun, which may scorch leaves.

Watering

  • Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy.

  • Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feels dry.

  • Reduce watering in fall and winter but do not let the soil dry out completely.

Temperature

  • Ideal temperature: 65–85°F.

  • Sensitive to cold—keep away from temperatures below 60°F.

  • Avoid exposure to drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Humidity

  • Prefers high humidity (50-70%).

  • Benefits from regular misting, a humidity tray, or a humidifier.

Fertilizing

  • Feed regularly during the growing season (spring–summer).

  • Use a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer (10-10-10) every 4 weeks.

  • Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
