Aglaonema Chinese Evergreen

The Aglaonema, commonly known as the Chinese Evergreen, is a popular and low-maintenance houseplant. Its attractive foliage and tolerance to a variety of indoor conditions make it a great choice for both beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts.

Light

  • Preferred light: Moderate to low, indirect light.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and cause the plant to lose its vibrant colors.

  • Placement: Aglaonema can thrive in areas with low light, such as offices or rooms with minimal windows, but it will grow faster and show more vibrant colors in brighter indirect light.

 Watering

  • Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Ensure thorough watering so that water reaches the entire root system.

  • Water Typically, every 7-10 days, but this can vary based on the humidity and temperature in your home.

  • Avoid Overwatering or letting the plant sit in water, as this can cause root rot.

 Soil

  • Use a well-draining potting mix. A general indoor plant mix with added perlite or sand for better drainage works well.

Repotting

  • Repot the plant around every 1-2 years or when it outgrows its pot (typically when the roots become crowded and start emerging from the drainage holes).

  • Choose a pot that is 1-2 inches larger than the current one. Aglaonema prefers a snug pot but will benefit from a new one if it’s becoming root-bound.
