Palm Areca

The Areca Palm (Dypsis lutescens), also known as Butterfly Palm or Bamboo Palm, is a popular houseplant known for its elegant, arching fronds and air-purifying qualities. It adds a tropical touch to any indoor space.

Light

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal.

  • Can tolerate some direct morning sunlight but avoid harsh midday rays.

  • Low light can slow growth and cause yellowing leaves.

Watering

  • Allow the top inch of soil to dry before watering.

  • Water thoroughly, allowing excess to drain—avoid waterlogging.

  • Increase humidity by misting or placing a tray of water nearby.

Temperature

  • Ideal temperature: 65–75°F.

  • Cannot tolerate temperatures below 55°F.

  • Keep away from cold drafts, heaters, and air conditioners.

Fertilizing

  • Feed during the growing season (spring–summer).

  • Use a diluted liquid fertilizer formulated for palms once a month.

  • Do not fertilize in fall and winter when growth slows.
