Palm Ponytail
The Ponytail Palm (Beaucarnea recurvata), also known as the Elephant Foot Palm, is a unique and drought-tolerant plant known for its bulbous trunk and cascading, strap-like leaves. It’s an excellent choice for both beginners and seasoned plant enthusiasts.
Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light.
Can tolerate direct sunlight for a few hours daily.
Low light is acceptable but may slow growth.
Watering
Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
Water sparingly, as the bulbous trunk stores water—overwatering can lead to root rot.
Reduce watering in winter when the plant is dormant.
Temperature
Ideal temperature: 60–80°F.
Can tolerate temperatures as low as 50°F but avoid frost.
Keep away from cold drafts, heaters, and air conditioners.
Fertilizing
Feed during the growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer once a month.
Do not fertilize in fall and winter when growth slows.
