Philodendron Varieties

Philodendron varieties (Philodendron spp.) are versatile and popular houseplants known for their lush, tropical foliage. With a wide range of types, including Philodendron Hederaceum (Heartleaf Philodendron), Philodendron Birkin, Philodendron Selloum (Tree Philodendron), and Philodendron Brasil, they are easy to care for and thrive in many environments.

Light

  • Prefer bright, indirect light.

  • Can tolerate low light, but growth may slow, and variegated varieties may lose color.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering

  • Allow the top inch of soil to dry before watering.

  • Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain—do not let the plant sit in water.

  • Increase humidity with occasional misting, especially for varieties with larger leaves.

Temperature

  • Ideal temperature: 65–80°F.

  • Cannot tolerate temperatures below 55°F.

  • Protect from cold drafts and extreme heat from heaters or air conditioners.

Fertilizing

  • Feed during the growing season (spring–summer) with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks.

  • Reduce feeding during fall and winter when growth slows.
