Prayer Plant

The Prayer Plant (Maranta leuconeura) is a beautiful, low-maintenance plant known for its striking, patterned leaves that fold up at night, resembling hands in prayer. It adds vibrant color and interest to any indoor space.

Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light.

  • Can tolerate low light but may lose some leaf color and vibrancy.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering

  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

  • Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.

  • Increase humidity by misting the leaves or placing a humidity tray nearby.

Temperature

  • Ideal temperature: 65–75°F.

  • Sensitive to temperatures below 60°F.

  • Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes, as this can cause leaf drop.

Fertilizing

  • Feed during the growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks.

  • Do not fertilize in fall and winter when growth slows.
