Rex Begonia

Rex Begonias (Begonia rex) are prized for their stunning, colorful, and textured foliage. With their intricate leaf patterns and vibrant colors, they add a dramatic touch to any indoor space.

Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light.

  • Can tolerate some morning sunlight but avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

  • Low light can cause slow growth and less vibrant leaves.

Watering

  • Keep the soil consistently moist, but not soggy.

  • Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering.

  • Water from the bottom when possible to avoid wetting the leaves, which can lead to rot.

Temperature

  • Ideal temperature: 65–75°F.

  • Sensitive to temperatures below 60°F and cold drafts.

  • Keep away from air conditioners and heaters, as extreme temperature fluctuations can stress the plant.

Fertilizing

  • Feed during the growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks.

  • Avoid fertilizing in fall and winter when growth slows.
