Ric Rac

Ric Rac Cactus (Epiphyllum anguliger), also known as Fishbone Cactus, is a unique epiphytic cactus with zigzag, trailing stems. It is easy to care for and produces fragrant, night-blooming flowers under ideal conditions.

Light

  • Thrives in bright, indirect light.

  • Can tolerate some direct morning sunlight but avoid harsh afternoon rays.

  • Low light can slow growth and reduce flowering potential.

Watering

  • Allow the top inch of soil to dry before watering.

  • Water thoroughly, ensuring excess water drains out—avoid waterlogging.

  • Reduce watering in fall and winter when growth slows.

Temperature

  • Ideal temperature: 60–80°F.

  • Cannot tolerate temperatures below 50°F.

  • Keep away from cold drafts, heaters, and air conditioners.

Fertilizing

  • Feed during the growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks.

  • Use a cactus or orchid fertilizer for optimal growth.

  • Do not fertilize in fall and winter when growth slows.

Flowering

  • Produces large, fragrant, white or pale yellow blooms that open at night.

  • Requires bright light and consistent care to encourage flowering.

  • Keeping it slightly root-bound can help promote blooms.
