Palm Sago

The Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta) is a striking, slow-growing plant with a tropical, prehistoric appearance. Despite its name, it’s not a true palm but a cycad. It’s perfect for adding structure and elegance to any space.

Light

  • Thrives in bright, indirect light.

  • Can tolerate direct sunlight but may need protection from harsh midday rays.

  • Low light may lead to slower growth and sparse foliage.

Watering

  • Allow the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry out before watering.

  • Water thoroughly, ensuring good drainage—avoid waterlogging.

  • Reduce watering during winter when the plant is dormant.

Temperature

  • Ideal temperature: 65–75°F.

  • Can tolerate temperatures as low as 50°F but must be protected from frost.

  • Avoid exposure to cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Fertilizing

  • Feed during the growing season (spring–summer) with a slow-release or liquid fertilizer formulated for palms or cycads every 6–8 weeks.

  • Do not fertilize in fall and winter when growth slows.
