Sansevieria Snake Plant

Sansevieria, commonly known as the Snake Plant or Mother-in-Law's Tongue (Sansevieria trifasciata), is a hardy, low-maintenance plant known for its upright, sword-shaped leaves and air-purifying qualities. It's perfect for beginners and busy plant owners.

Light

  • Tolerates a wide range of light conditions, from low light to bright, indirect light.

  • Can even handle direct sunlight, though too much may cause the leaves to scorch.

  • Low light may slow growth, but the plant can survive in shaded areas.

Watering

  • Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings.

  • Water sparingly, especially in winter when growth slows.

  • Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot.

Temperature

  • Ideal temperature: 60–85°F.

  • Can tolerate temperatures as low as 50°F, but avoid frost.

  • Keep away from cold drafts and air conditioning vents.

Fertilizing

  • Feed during the growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks.

  • Do not fertilize in fall and winter when growth slows.
