Streptacarpus
Streptocarpus (Streptocarpus spp.), also known as Cape Primrose, is a beautiful flowering plant prized for its vibrant, trumpet-shaped blooms and velvety leaves. It thrives indoors and produces flowers for months with proper care.
Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light.
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Low light can reduce blooming and lead to leggy growth.
Watering
Allow the top inch of soil to dry before watering.
Water thoroughly, ensuring excess water drains out—avoid waterlogging.
Use room-temperature water and avoid wetting the leaves to prevent rot.
Temperature
Ideal temperature: 60–75°F.
Cannot tolerate temperatures below 50°F.
Keep away from cold drafts, heaters, and air conditioners.
Fertilizing
Feed during the growing season (spring–fall) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks.
Use a bloom-boosting fertilizer (high in phosphorus) to encourage more flowers.
Do not fertilize in winter when growth slows.
Flowering
Produces delicate, trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of purple, pink, white, and red.
Blooms prolifically from spring to fall with proper care.
Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming.
Avoid overwatering and keep humidity moderate for healthy flowers.
