Sundew Plant

Sundew Plant (Drosera spp.) is a fascinating carnivorous plant known for its glistening, sticky glandular hairs that trap and digest insects. It’s an eye-catching addition to any collection of exotic plants.

Light

  • Prefers bright, direct sunlight for at least 4–6 hours a day.

  • Can grow under strong artificial grow lights if sunlight is insufficient.

  • Too little light can cause weak, spindly growth and loss of dew.

Watering

  • Use distilled or rainwater only, as tap water can harm the plant.

  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

  • Maintain humidity by placing the pot in a tray of water or growing it in a terrarium.

Temperature

  • Ideal temperature: 70–85°F for tropical varieties, 50–70°F for temperate varieties.

  • Protect tropical varieties from frost; temperate varieties can tolerate brief cold periods.

  • Avoid exposure to cold drafts and extreme heat.

Fertilizing

  • Sundew plants do not require traditional fertilizers.

  • Feed with small insects or diluted carnivorous plant food during the growing season.

  • Avoid overfeeding, as the plant can suffer from nutrient overload.
