Venus fly Trap
Venus Fly Trap (Dionaea muscipula) is a fascinating carnivorous plant known for its jaw-like traps that capture and digest insects. Proper care is essential for maintaining its health and function.
Light
Thrives in bright, direct sunlight for at least 4–6 hours daily.
Can tolerate bright, indirect light but may grow weaker.
Insufficient light can lead to small traps and slow growth.
Watering
Use only distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water—tap water can harm the plant.
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Best grown in a tray with a shallow layer of water to maintain humidity.
Temperature
Ideal temperature: 70–85°F in the growing season.
Can tolerate cooler temperatures (as low as 40°F) during dormancy.
Avoid exposure to frost or extreme heat.
Fertilizing
Does not require traditional fertilizers—feeds on live insects.
If indoors, feed small live bugs (not meat or processed food) occasionally.
Do not overfeed, as it can stress the plant.
Dormancy
Enters dormancy in late fall and requires cooler temperatures (40–50°F) for 2–3 months.
Leaves may die back, but this is normal—reduce watering during this period.
Resume regular care in spring when new growth appears.
